Judy Tiell recently retired as Executive Director of Jewish Family & Career Services (JFCS), a leading Louisville non- profit human services organization serving close to 10,000 people throughout the community. At JFCS, Judy significantly raised the endowment of the agency by creating a series of named funds and legacy gifts. She was instrumental in the creation of a number of innovative programs including LHOME, a certified community development financial institution which, Judy transferred to the Housing Partnership and New Directions to further advance its growth. She managed a $3million dollar budget and diversified funding sources in order to maximize economic impact. She managed a diverse staff of over 50 individuals and worked with a board of directors that functioned in an extremely effective, committed manner. She is a licensed clinical social worker with a specialty in adoption and infertility services. Throughout her career, she provided organizational development and training opportunities to local companies on topics in the areas of wellness, communication and conflict management. Judy has mentored numerous young social workers and non – profit professionals, growing the leadership pool here in Louisville. Over the years, she has consulted with several local non-profits, helping them to become more fiscally secure, grow their board and align mission.
Judy is passionate about ensuring that non-profits utilize strong planning processes and stay mission focused as they serve their populations. Her areas of expertise include strategic and tactical planning, board development and program development.
Judy has served on numerous boards and committees and served as president of the Council of Agency Executives in Louisville and the International Association of Jewish Vocational Service Professionals, an international trade association. She has received numerous awards throughout her career from organizations as diverse as Spalding University, the Center for Non Profit Management and the Network of Jewish Human Service Professionals.
A graduate of Brown University with a degree in psychology, Judy continued her education earning two masters degrees. Her master’s degree in social work is from the University of Maryland and her Masters of Arts degree in Jewish studies is from the Baltimore Hebrew University. Judy is married to Bob Tiell and they have two adult sons. She will soon celebrate her first grandchild’s birth.
